A Journey Through the Senses with 2RidePortugal – Part 1: Along the Tagus and Into the North
Setting the Wheels in Motion
When we set off on a journey, we often don’t realize how deeply it can touch us. This tour with 2RidePortugal promised beauty, culture, flavors, and adventure — and delivered so much more. In this first part, we travel along the riverbanks of the Tagus and up toward the northern landscapes of Portugal. Nature, memory, and emotion intertwine in unexpected ways.
Through Rice Fields and River Breezes
This wasn’t my first tour experience with 2RidePortugal, and all of them went very well, so I decided to embrace another journey that I knew would be different and special.
This tour lasted a week and started heading towards the North of Portugal. The first kilometers were through the Lezíria do Tejo, a region surrounding the Tagus River, known for its large rice fields and, at this time of year, tomato plantations. Riding along the riverbanks is always a breathtaking experience. Seeing the winding edges of the river and the surrounding vegetation always brings me a sense of well-being.
Knights and Castles on the Horizon
On a small rugged island in the river, I spotted the Castle of Almourol, which evokes memories of the Knights Templars in Portugal. Visiting such places always stimulates my imagination, making me feel what it must have been like to live in those times.
Lunch by the Water, Powered by Chance
Our first lunch had a twist — the restaurant had a power outage, so there weren’t many options besides fresh salads, which wasn’t bad at all since it was quite hot at that time. Eating something refreshing with a view of a river beach was exactly what I needed in that moment.
Reflections that Calm the Soul
During this tour, we rode along several roads that followed rivers and reservoirs, which I loved. Feeling the coolness of the water and seeing its calm reflection brought me peace and serenity.
What the Road Whispered That Day
This first day already revealed how this journey was far more than just a motorcycle tour — it was a deep, sensory dive into the soul of Portugal. And this is only the beginning. In the next chapter, we head into the mountains, where freedom has a scent, a color, and a rhythm of its own.
